Artist Biography
b. 1942, Liverpool, England, d. January 1989. A broadcaster and unlikely 80s records hitmaker, Moore left school in the summer of 1960 and started a good job in the then-thriving docks. However, a desire to do something different led him to Oldham Repertory Theatre where he became assistant stage manager. He managed to do some acting and even appeared in a B-movie called A Touch Of Brass made for the Billy Graham organization. After spending some more time in repertory, Moore joined Granada television as an announcer in 1962, working alongside Bernard Youens, later to star in Coronation Street. After a move to ATV in 1964, Moore was employed by BBC Manchester in television and as a radio disc jockey, hosting Pop North among other programmes. In the summer of 1967 he went to the BBC in London as a holiday stand-in for the Saturday Club show and was later invited to join Radio 2 when it was launched in September 1967. In 1986 he teamed up with the eccentric west country musician Shag Connors to record the novelty single ‘My Father Had A Rabbit’ which was a surprise hit with proceeds going to charity. By the time Moore and Connors recorded the follow-up ‘Bog Eyed Jog’ in the following year, Moore had learnt that he was suffering from cancer of the mouth. He bravely battled on until his death in 1989. Taken from journals that Moore kept during the last months of his life, his biography subsequently became a bestseller.
