Künstler-Biographie
A star in her native Ukraine, Ruslana became her homeland's biggest musical export after winning the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest. After winning the Slavyanskiy Bazar song competition in 1996, she recorded her debut album, Myt' Vesny: Dzvinkyj Viter. Inspired by her father's Hutsuls heritage, 2003's Dyki Tantsi was a concept album, fusing traditional ethnic instruments with contemporary dance rhythms. The title track was chosen to represent the Ukraine at the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest, making her the country's first Eurovision winner. Next came her first English-language album, 2004's Wild Dances. Influenced by the Maryna and Serhiy Dyachenko science-fiction novel, the bilingual Wild Energy featured collaborations with T.I. and Missy Elliott. She continued to record both Ukrainian and English albums into the 2010s, including 2012's Eyforiya and 2013's Miy Brat! (Razom!) and My Boo! (Together!). A well-known political activist, Ruslana was appointed Good Will Ambassador of Ukraine by UNICEF.
