Yazz Ahmed is a British-Bahraini trumpet player and award-winning composer. She seeks to blur the lines between global jazz traditions, and electronic sound design in a style she once described as "psychedelic Arabic jazz." Her internationally acclaimed sophomore album, 2017's La Saboteuse, proved Ahmed a gifted soloist and arranger. 2019's Polyhymnia, a large group concept album devoted to the Greek Muse for the arts named in the title, and a remix EP appeared later that year. With 2025's A Paradise in the Hold, a project ten years in the making, the British-Bahraini musician dove even deeper into her dual heritage. For the first time, she wrote for voice, drawing on traditional music and stories from her childhood home, with lyrics inspired by Bahraini wedding poems and pearl divers' songs. The album charts heroic voyages of ancient jewel-hunters alongside Ahmed's feminist journey of self-discovery and bridging her two cultures.
