In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
I regularly heard the song “Rocky Top” growing up in Knoxville, TN. There’s a video of me when I was two, singing the melody to Rocky Top, with correct timing, even though I didn’t know the right words. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
J.D. Crowe & The New South, My Home Ain't In the Hall of Fame
Ralph Stanley, Clinch Mountain Gospel
The Johnson Mountain Boys, At the Old Schoolhouse (Live)
The JMB were hardcore bluegrass band, in their prime on this album. J.D. Crowe’s mix of country and bluegrass includes early Keith Whitley, just before his country career. Ralph Stanley’s gospel album features an iconic Clinch Mountain Boys lineup.

“Blue Smoke (feat. Marty Stuart)”
I wrote this instrumental bluegrass tune when I was 12 years old inspired by my home in the Smoky Mountains. I composed it with Marty Stuart's playing in mind. I wrote him a letter asking if he'd play on it; he said yes and the rest is history. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Billy Strings recently invited me to play mandolin with him in Winston-Salem, NC, in honor of Doc Watson’s 100th Birthday Celebration.
We played Bill Monroe’s “Watson’s Blues” in front of 15,000 music lovers. I’m not sure how that will be topped.
