Artist Biography
With elastic vocals laid over menacing beats, rapper Why G has made his presence known in the Toronto hip-hop scene. While the Canadian MC is a well-known figure musically, he thrives on the power of anonymity, focusing instead on projecting his lifestyle through his craft. In 2018, Why G released the ominous, propulsive single “Gamble,” featuring fellow Torontonian rapper Pressa with production by Drake collaborator WondaGurl. The following year, Why G dropped his debut album, Mr Vanishyah, which was highlighted by the Houdini-assisted street anthem “Auntie.” The piano-driven “Heard of Me,” featuring Toronto MC Top5, came in 2020, highlighted by Why G’s unflinching view of life and all of its intricacies. By 2021, the artist would experiment with pop-leaning production and melodic rhyming on “Bogus,” which focused on his self-sufficiency and determination. Though he keeps his personal information largely under wraps, Why G has made himself accessible through his music.
