Wheel is a prog-metal quartet based in Finland. Their sound, while anchored in grooves, is filled with musical adventure via post-punk interludes, bass-driven polyrhythms, and sometimes abstract, but always complex time signatures. The original group included U.K.-born songwriter/vocalist, keyboardist, and rhythm guitarist James Lascelles, with Finns Saku Mattila (lead guitar), Mikko Määttä (bass), and Santeri Saksala (drums). The band released "The Path," its debut single, in 2017 and followed with the four-track The Divide EP a year later. Saksala departed and was replaced by Roni Seppänen (Tracedawn, Montage) for their debut long-player Moving Backwards on Odyssey Music Network. Seppänen and Määttä left the band before the recording of 2021's Resident Human. In addition to guitars, Lascelles played keyboards. 2024's Charismatic Leaders, their Inside Out debut, included veteran session guitarist Jussi Turunen, while Lascelles and Niilo Ryti split bass duties.
Members of Wheel include, or have included, James Lascelles and Santeri Saksala.
