Sun-baked and bathed in reverb, his woozy pop is a potent nostalgia trip.

A Georgia native whose hazy compositions helped put chillwave on the map, Ernest Greene has been crafting dreamy electronic pop as Washed Out since 2009.
∙ After playing with the dance band Bedroom and making lo-fi rock as Lee Weather, Washed Out debuted in 2009 with two EPs, High Times and Life of Leisure.
∙ “Feel It All Around,” one of chillwave’s defining anthems and the standout single from Life of Leisure, was used as the theme song of the TV sketch comedy series Portlandia.
∙ His 2011 debut LP, Within and Without, reached No. 6 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart, and his 2013 follow-up, Paracosm, rose to No. 3.
∙ For the 2017 full-length Mister Mellow, Washed Out teamed up with producer Cole M.G.N. (Julia Holter, Real Estate, Nite Jewel).
∙ He’s collaborated with such artists as Toro Y Moi, Caroline Polachek, and Roosevelt, and he also helped produce Sudan Archives’ 2019 debut album, Athena.
