Chicago rapper Warhol.SS makes head-bobbing, bass-thumping hip-hop, flipping between a raw snarl and a melodic flow.
• The rapper took his name from legendary artist Andy Warhol. In particular, he’s a fan of Warhol’s famous 1967 banana painting, which inspired a 2012 collection by the Japanese streetwear company BAPE.
• Growing up, Warhol.SS lived briefly in Atlanta. He says his unique sound was influenced by that city, as well as his hometown of Chicago.
• He started out posting music on SoundCloud and picked up some buzz with his 2016 single “Speed Racer,” which spawned a memorable music video directed by Lyrical Lemonade founder Cole Bennett.
• His 2018 debut album, Chest Pains, features UnoTheActivist, Rico Nasty, and Hoodrich Pablo Juan—as well as production from Kenny Beats, Harry Fraud, Murda Beatz, and more.
