Artist Biography
Not to be confused with the German electronic pop band of the early 80s who had a big UK hit with ‘Da Da Da’, this Trio were an ambitious meeting ground between jazz and rock musicians in the early 70s. The group featured Stu Martin (drums), Barre Phillips (b. 27 October 1934, San Francisco, California, USA; bass) and John Surman (b. John Douglas Surman, 30 August 1944, Tavistock, Devon, England; saxophone). Trio made their debut in 1970 with an ambitious double album for Dawn Records. The follow-up, Conflagration, featured many renowned contributors, including Chick Corea, who was an early supporter of the group.
