Artist Biography
The Trio Mocotó is a group that shaped the style known as samba-rock, a fusion of the two genres. They influenced many artists looking to wed Brazilian and American pop music, like Tim Maia and Jorge Ben, whom they backed in recordings and performances. Formed in 1968, the trio were very busy during the early '70s, hitting the charts with the single "Coqueiro Verde" (Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos) and soon accompanying Ben on tour, as well as both Ben and Toquinho on the recording of "Que Maravilha." Their first LP, Muita Zorra!, came in 1971, followed by two others in 1973 and 1975. With the advent of the disco craze and the era's waning interest in live music, the group ran out of work and dissolved. After 24 years without performing together, the band reunited in 2000 to play on the Jô Soares TV show, commemorating the group's 30th anniversary.
