About Trick Pony
Artist Biography
Rowdy country combo Trick Pony was formed by former Tanya Tucker and Joe Diffie sidemen Keith Burns and Ira Dean. The two soon recruited powerful lead vocalist Heidi Newfield and made a big splash with their 2001 self-titled debut, which featured the rollicking honky-tonk hit, “Pour Me.” Heavily influenced by 1970s southern rock, the group perfected an amped-up, high energy sound that often sounded like Loretta Lynn fronting Lynyrd Skynyrd. After charting with two more albums, the band suffered a blow in 2006 when Newfield left for a solo career. Though she was quickly replaced by Aubrey Collins, Collins herself left a year later.
