About Trevor Watts
Artist Biography
A child of jazz-loving parents, Trevor Watts was largely self-taught, taking up the cornet at the age of 12 and the alto saxophone at 18. In 1965, after a move to London, he helped found the Spontaneous Music Ensemble (SME), one of the premier outfits in British experimental improv. In 1967, he formed Amalgam with Barry Guy, and continued to work with both groups until the late '70s. He also founded the Drum Orchestra in 1978 and the 10-piece Moiré Music Group four years later. Watts continued to record, compose, and perform into the 2000s.
