Tom Moulton entered the industry as a 45s buyer for a jukebox manufacturer and held sales and promotions positions. A laborious reel-to-reel mix built for continuous dancing at a Fire Island nightclub led to an accidental career in remixing tracks. Moulton extended them and made them more rhythmically dynamic. His pioneering work assisted funk, soul, and disco hits by B.T. Express, Gloria Gaynor, Double Exposure, and MFSB, among dozens of other acts. Though his output as a remixer slowed, Moulton continued to work through the 2010s and established himself as a mastering engineer. In 2006, the Soul Jazz label compiled a small fraction of his remixes for A Tom Moulton Mix, titled after the phrase that often marked his 12” work. ~ Andy Kellman
