About Tippu

Tippu is a celebrated voice in South Indian cinema known for his powerful, emotive singing and his versatility across Tamil, Telugu and Kannada film music. Steeped in the Carnatic tradition since childhood, Tippu began giving singing serious consideration in his final year of secondary school while homebound as he recovered from an accident. Encouraged by mentors and music industry veterans, he got into playback singing first through stage performances and television shows.
The artist got his first big break in the early 2000s with songs such as “Venmathiye” from the 2001 romantic film Minnalae and “Ennai Konjum” from 2003’s Kaakha Kaakha—both composed by Harris Jayaraj—plus “Girlfriend” from the movie Boys, composed by A.R. Rahman.
Tippu’s distinctive voice and ability to adapt to a wide range of musical styles have made him a favourite among composers and fans. He’s also expanded into Telugu with hits such as “Nanne Nanne” from 2004’s Gharshana, as well as Kannada and Malayalam. Married to fellow singer Harini, Tippu and his wife have two children, Sai Abhyankkar and Sai Smriti, who have also earned their names as singers.
