Artist Biography
Faith, tradition, and bucketloads of God-given talent are the cornerstones upon which Thinah Zungu’s gospel career is built. Born in 1998 in Inanda, just outside Durban, the South African spent his early years soaking up the Christ-centered values of his devout parents before embracing his calling as a singer. His 2007 debut full-length, Enkazimulweni, introduced South Africa’s massive gospel scene to a balladeer in possession of both a cathartically expressive voice and a sharp ear for songcraft. Zungu has since gone on to success after success, offering up sublime worship originals like “Kuthe Bekwazi” and “Kwanqaba’ Umusa” that, in addition to becoming church favorites throughout the nation, have made him a fixture at the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s annual Crown Gospel Awards. Further solidifying Zungu’s popularity is his enthusiasm for collaboration. A slew of the country’s most prominent gospel stars, including Pastor Sipho Ngwenya and the long-running Spirit of Praise collective, have notched major hits featuring Zungu’s uniquely soul-erupting vocals.
