Starting in the mid-'80s, the Telescopes have built a long, silently influential, and consistently obscure career. Starting off as a noise rock band, they then became shoegazers, evolved into dream poppers, and later delved into electronics with avant-garde tendencies. The group's exploratory spirit has produced numerous albums that have rarely sounded like each other, swinging wildly from the muted acoustic melancholy and paisley-patterned rock of their 1992 self-titled album to the dark, hypnotic psychedelia of 2023's Of Tomorrow. Along the way, their prolific nature resulted in the release of archival material like 2024's album Growing Eyes Becoming String, recordings salvaged from 2013 sessions thought to be long lost to time. They continued releasing new music at a steady clip with the psychedelic space blues of their 2024 album Halo Moon.
