English folk trio The Staves craft intimate and stripped-down songs about relationships and politics. The project consists of three sisters—Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor—from Watford, who have been performing together for years. Making their official debut in 2010, they quickly won fans with their bare-bones sound and vocal harmonizing, best showcased on their heart-on-sleeve 2011 single “Mexico.” They soon attracted the attention of artists such as Bon Iver frontman, Justin Vernon, who brought them out on tour before producing their second album, If I Was, in 2014. The three-piece continued to sing their personal and political truths on their revealing 2021 acoustic album, Good Woman, where they tackle grief, motherhood, self-actualization, and the patriarchy.
