New Orleans roots rockers The Revivalists spent almost a decade playing locally before their fusion of soul, country, R&B, and funk caught on with a national audience.
∙ The band formed after guitarist Zack Feinberg rode his bicycle past frontman David Shaw, who was on his porch playing “Purple Heart”—a song that ended up on their 2010 debut, Vital Signs.
∙ The 2015 breakout “Wish I Knew You,” which was nominated for Top Rock Song at the Billboard Music Awards, spent two years climbing to No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.
∙ Shaw has collaborated with New Orleans funk outfit Galactic on such albums as 2015’s Into the Deep, which topped Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.
∙ They’ve appeared in the critically acclaimed drama Treme and in NCIS: New Orleans, where they opened an episode by performing the 2018 single “You and I.”
