About The Move
Hometown
Birmingham, England
Formed
December 1965
Genre
Pop
One of the quintessential British psych-pop bands of the 1960s, the Move was fronted by pop visionary Roy Wood, and racked up numerous UK chart hits. Unlike many of their contemporaries, they were stylistically adventurous, and occasionally dipped into both heavy rock and amped-up rockabilly, and even turned a song by folkie Tom Paxton into a hard-rock behemoth. After the Move's breakup, Wood, drummer Bev Bevan, and late arrival Jeff Lynne started the Electric Light Orchestra. While Lynne steered that band to pop stardom, Wood formed the rock-oriented Wizzard.
