Texan Norman Odom (aka Stardust Cowboy) was preoccupied as a child by his dual fascinations with outer space and the Wild West. By the time he was a teenager, he channeled those interests through music, having been influenced by early rock and country forebears. During late high school and college he’d perform for school crowds as an eccentric one-man band, until he finally scored an improbable 1968 hit with the T-Bone Burnett-engineered “Paralyzed.” Though a contract with Mercury and television appearances would follow, Odam dipped back into obscurity. Amazing Records finally released a full-length of his bizarre rockabilly stylings, titled ROCK-IT TO STARDOM, in 1984. But despite his influence on “psychobilly” acts like the Reverend Horton Heat, Odam has only recorded one other album in the ensuing years.
