British twee pop outfit the Field Mice were the star attraction of the iconic Sarah Records label, defining the bittersweet, romantically plaintive sound of the genre. The group, which began as a duo, released its first single “Emma’s House” in 1988. Follow up singles like “Sensitive,” and the SO SAY KAY EP, expanded the band’s fan base (which included influential DJ and tastemaker John Peel). The Field Mice eventually expanded to a five-piece, and while they only released one full-length studio album (‘91’s FOR KEEPS), their stream of singles and compilations helped them achieve cult status. They disbanded in 1991.
