Formed in Santa Cruz, California, in the early 2000s, The Devil Makes Three (guitarist Pete Bernhard, bassist MorganEve Swain, and guitarist/tenor banjo player Cooper McBean) crafted a blend of Americana and folk that takes in all manner of styles, from bluegrass country, and ragtime music to blues, jazz, punk, and rock. Over their decades-long career, they’ve released numerous albums that challenge musical traditions with a decided post-modern bent. In 2019, they recorded a key performance at Colorado’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. 2025 saw the release of Spirits, the group’s seventh studio album.
