About The Broken West
Artist Biography
Ross Flournoy, Danny Iead, Rob McCorkindale, and Brian Whelan formed the sunny pop four-piece The Brokedown in the mid-2000s, crafting a sound befitting their laid-back, left coast roots. Equal parts Byrds-inspired nostalgia and Teenage Fanclub-esque alt-rock throwback, the group was all about harmonies and hooks from the start. After a 2005 EP, THE DUTCHMAN’S GOLD, the band was snatched up by indie powerhouse Merge Records. Unfortunately, a same-named Chicago outfit forced a name change to The Broken West, but that situation was resolved in time for their 2007 debut, I CAN’T GO ON, I’LL GO ON, which was steeped in its forebears but still irresistibly catchy. That effort was quickly followed by the more mature pop compositions of 2008’s NOW OR HEAVEN.
