Denver, Colorado's the Anchor employ a sonically punishing yet lyrically hopeful blend of post-hardcore and punk. Fronted by lead screamer Linzey Rae, the band eschews the usual metalcore tropes for a message intended to uplift, offering refuge for people wrestling with mental health disorders and other life struggles. Formed in 2015, the group received some early buzz when Rae's YouTube channel went viral after she began releasing episodes of her Metal Kitchen series, which featured the singer cooking or baking, while screaming the instructions metalcore style. The band, which also includes the talents of surname-shy Keenan, Cory, Adam, and Ryan, released their independent debut long-player, A World Ahead, in 2016. The album caught the attention of N.Y.C. indie Manic Kat Records, which put out the group's 2018 EP Make It Last. ~ James Christopher Monger
