The Alchemist is a legendary hip-hop producer who’s worked with several generations of rap superstars over the course of his decades-long career.
• Although he’s associated with the gritty boom-bap sound of New York City rap, The Alchemist hails from Beverly Hills.
• As a teenager in the ’90s, The Alchemist rapped alongside Scott Caan—son of actor James Caan—in a duo called The Whooliganz.
• The Alchemist honed his production craft under the tutelage of DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, whom The Whooliganz toured with.
• The producer began his long-running partnership with Mobb Deep in 1999 by producing two tracks for the NYC duo’s fourth album, Murda Muzik.
• Throughout the ’00s and ’10s, The Alchemist crafted beats for a who's who of hip-hop luminaries, including Ghostface Killah, Nas, Jadakiss, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Wayne.
• The Alchemist released his debut solo album, The Infantry, in 2004. He followed that with Chemical Warfare in 2009 and Russian Roulette in 2012.
• In addition to solo outings, the producer has released numerous collaborative projects with artists like Oh No, Evidence, Action Bronson, Conway the Machine, and Freddie Gibbs.
• In 2020, after years of serving as Eminem’s tour DJ, The Alchemist finally landed a placement on an Em album, cowriting and coproducing “Stepdad” for Music to be Murdered By.
