About Terry Winter
Artist Biography
Brazilian singer and songwriter Thomas William Standen used several aliases throughout his career, but is mostly remembered as Terry Winter. Born in São Paulo in 1941, he began his musical journey in the early '60s singing in Portuguese. Toward the end of the decade, he adopted the name Terry Winter and passed himself off as an English-speaking foreign singer, a common marketing strategy at the time. As Terry Winter, he enjoyed the greatest success of his career with the song "Summer Holiday," a 1972 hit in Brazil and Latin America. After scoring another hit in 1976 with "Our Love," his popularity waned. In the years to come, Standen would go through a series of new names and musical directions before passing away of pneumonia in 1998.
