Tamar-Kali is a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and film composer. Her innovative and soulful fusion of classical, alternative rock, and post-punk, deeply influenced by her Gullah heritage from the Sea Islands of South Carolina, has earned her critical acclaim and mainstream success. She gained significant recognition in 2017 with her award-winning film score for Dee Rees' Oscar-nominated Mudbound (2017). Tamar-Kali continued to earn accolades for her soundtrack work, contributing scores for 2020's biopic of author Shirley Jackson and 2024's boxing drama The Fire Inside. In addition to her solo and soundtrack work, Tamar-Kali bridges the gap between classical and post-punk with her string sextet and voice project, Psychochamber Ensemble.
