With their upbeat anthems, Sunset Sweatshop have become one of South Africa’s leading goema rock bands. Formed in 2016, the five-piece group blend elements of reggae and folk with rock to create their unique style, which their 2017 debut single, “Move It,” perfectly exemplifies. Energized by the success of that song, the band took their fusion sound and spread it all over Chasing Gold, their vibrant first album. On 2020’s buoyant “Aye” and 2021’s “Takeaways from Nature!”, the band took on a brighter pop sound, while staying true to their lighthearted, sing-along melodic core.
