Artist Biography
London-based producer and DJ Steven Julien makes off-kilter house and synth-funk, in addition to running the respected Apron Records label. He first became known for making glitchy cosmic funk and acid electro under the name FunkinEven, in addition to his extensive work with Eglo Records labelmate Fatima. Julien launched his own Apron Records in 2011, and collaborated with Detroit's Kyle Hall as the duo FunkinEvil. By 2015, Julien had stopped using the FunkinEven handle in favor of his own name. His first full-length, the gritty, wide-ranging Fallen, appeared in 2016, and the mini-LP Bloodline followed in 2018. He has continued to issue EPs and to DJ on NTS Radio as well as at clubs throughout the world. His first commercially issued mix, as part of the DJ-Kicks series, arrived in 2024.
