About Sharp Veins
Hometown
Alabama, United States
Genre
Electronic
Sharp Veins produces a brand of fractured, prismatic electronic music that draws from the more atmospheric elements of U.K. grime. While some of his tracks have hard-hitting beats, others are more sparse and dissolved, laced with acidic distortion and touching melodies. Born William King in Alabama, but later based in New York City, he first caught the attention of London's grime scene with tracks he produced under the name William Skeng, and appeared on Boxed Vol. 1, a 2014 digital compilation released by label/club night Boxed. By the end of the year, King had renamed himself Sharp Veins, debuting the alias with a track on Coyote Records' Coyote Kings, Vol. 2. His debut vinyl release, Inbox Island, appeared on Glacial Sound in 2015, and earned some positive press. The limited CD single SPAACE001 and cassette The Earth Splashed were also issued that year, as were remixes of tracks by Iglooghost and dJJ. Sharp Veins' track "Already Bones" was included on Mumdance and Logos' 2016 mix CD Presents Different Circles, as well as the related Weightless, Vol. 2 12" EP in early 2017. Sharp Veins' second EP, Bleeds Colors and Puddles, was released by UNO NYC later in the year. ~ Paul Simpson
