Austrian schlager band Die Seer broke through to mainstream success in their homeland in the mid-2000s, when their albums began regularly charting within the Top Five, sometimes reaching number one. Though most easily classified as simply schlager, the band's style is unique, incorporating aspects of Austro-pop as well as volksmusik; perhaps the most accurate classification would be volkstümlicher schlager. Formed in 1995, Die Seer are led by songwriter/guitarist Fred Jaklitsch (aka Alfred); other bandmembers include Astrid Wirtenberger (vocals), Sabine Holzinger (aka Sassy; vocals), Friedrich Hampel (aka Spitz; vocals), Thomas Eder (guitar), Manfred Temmel (guitar), Jürgen Leitner (accordion), Alois Huber (keyboards), Dietmar Kastowsky (bass), and Wolfgang Luckner (drums). ~ Jason Birchmeier
