Sarah Hanahan is a New York-based alto saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. Her tone readily reveals the influence of Jackie McLean, but her approach also reflects influences ranging from John Coltrane and Charlie Parker to Kenny Garrett. In addition to leading her own quartet, she is a member of Ulysses Owens & Generation Y, alongside sister/alto saxophonist Erena Terakubo. She also plays regularly with Sherrie Miracle & the Diva Orchestra, Joe Farnsworth's group, and the Mingus Big Band. In 2024, Hanahan released her debut long-player, Among Giants, on Jazz at Lincoln Center's house label Blue Engine. Her quartet included pianist Marc Cary, drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts, and bassist Nat Reeves.
