Songwriter Sam Dees was also a superb performer in his own right. After releasing a handful of singles in the late '60s, Dees signed with Chess Records in 1971, releasing the magnificent singles "Love Starvation" and "Can You Be a One Woman Man." He was picked up by Atlantic Records in 1975 for the acclaimed album THE SHOW MUST GO ON. Dees also wrote songs for artists such as Loleatta Holloway ("Cry to Me"), Barbara Hall ("Drop My Heart Off at the Door"), and Margie Joseph ("Just as Soon as the Feeling’s Over"). In the mid '80s Dees formed his own Pen Pad label and released the album SECRET ADMIRER, which included the singles, "Just Wait Until I Get You Home," and "After All."
