About Rogue Wave
Artist Biography
Emerging during the dreamy indie-rock boom of the early 2000s, Rogue Wave distinguished themselves thanks to the nostalgic, vulnerable songwriting of Zach Schwartz. The Oakland, CA, band’s 2003 debut album, Out of the Shadow, featured songs such as the shimmering “Every Moment,” a wistful song about a souring relationship. Having cut his teeth in the Bay Area band Desoto Reds, Schwartz formed Rogue Wave in 2002 with a group of musicians that included drummer/keyboardist Patrick Spurgeon. The group built on the success of Out of the Shadow with music placements in TV shows such as The O.C. (2005’s folk-leaning “California”) and Chuck (2007’s waltzing “Lake Michigan”). However, Rogue Wave continue to focus on album-length artistic statements, as evinced by 2016’s Delusions of Grand Fur and a 2017 covers album featuring the band’s takes on songs by The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, and others.
