b. Robin Coudert, Paris, France. Former art student Coudert records on the Paris-based Source Records label, the original home of French electronic superstars, Air. Originally a keyboard player in a funk band, his first break came when his track ‘Musique Pour Un Enfant Jouet’ (‘Music For A Toy Child’) appeared on the acclaimed Source compilation, Source Material. His 2001 debut Don’t Kill demonstrated an old-fashioned affection for power pop and the soundtracks of 60s and 70s western movies. The album also steered away from the in vogue French disco sound, with Coudert playing real instruments and eschewing samples and filters. He confirmed his left-field genius with the following year’s Satyred Love, a beautiful concept album exploring the trials and tribulations of romanticism.
