About Rob Rokicki
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Going to the symphony with my parents as a kid was mindblowing. We listened to "In The Hall of the Mountain King" at the Aspen Music Festival during a thunderstorm and I was terrified and enthralled by what music could do.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Original Cast Recording) Radiohead, The Bends The Afghan Whigs, Black Love (20th Anniversary Edition) The Bends made me want to learn guitar and seeing Radiohead live as a teen changed my life. Black Love showed me the power of a concept album and mixing soul with alt rock. Hedwig showed me that a contemporary musical could sound authentically rock.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Lead Singer” This was the first song of mine where I felt I found my voice as a songwriter.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I received a lovely message from Lin-Manuel Miranda, who said that he and his son loved to listen to my musical, The Lightning Thief. To be acknowledged by an artist you admire is incredibly rewarding.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Having a show on Broadway was a dream come true. I'd like to continue to make innovative work with people who inspire me and make all kinds of projects.
