Nashville producer and composer ROARY strives to blur the line between organic and synthetic with his richly textured electronic music.
• ROARY is Dustin Wise, who plays keyboards in the indie/Americana band Midnight Pilot, which released a self-titled album in 2015.
• He’s been posting singles and EPs under the ROARY name since at least 2016.
• In addition to his solo work, Wise has written and produced songs with acts including Andrew Belle, Katie Herzig, Fleurie, and Matthew Perryman Jones, often for the intentionally opaque music project Unsecret.
• He has tended to name larger bodies of work with numbers. He put out the EP II in 2016, and by 2018 had expanded to the full-length IV. The EP V came later that year, followed in 2020 by the full-length VI and in 2021 by Seven.
• In 2020, Wise coproduced a cover of Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” for the singer Adona, which appeared on the soundtrack to the DC Comics film Birds of Prey.
