In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Our first gig outside of Maningrida at Bakbididi Festival when the crowd went wild when they realised we are a rock band not a choir. The first all women's band in Arnhem Land, we received standing ovation from the other bands.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Emily Wurramara, Milyakburra Letterstick Band, An-Barra Clan Sheebah, Karma Queen We love hearing artists sing in their languages and we love brave female artists who are role models like Sheebah and Emily. Letterstick Band are from Maningrida and they are our fathers and uncles who inspired us to play music.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Cyclone” This song is about the 2006 Cyclone Monica that threatened our home, but we were saved by the ancestral water spirits, the Djómi. Singing about these spirits makes us emotional and connects us to the power of the land. This song also has a remix.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Playing at WOMADelaide and getting the crowd dancing and teaching so many children our song Nabarddja, The Little Crab. We met and watched so many inspiring artists such as Sampa the Great, Sister Nancy and the inspiring Small Island Big Song.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? We would love to tour overseas. Coming from West Arnhem Land, we have loved meeting people and other artists as we have toured nationally. We would love to travel to some Pacific Islands and maybe to Canada but we are open to suggestions and offers!
