Rapper and producer Ricky Desktop has cracked the code to viral music production. His infectious beats played in more than 20 million TikTok videos in just one year.
• A skilled multi-instrumentalist, Ricky began making music when he was 14. He later picked up rapping and began writing short songs about technology, but he ultimately decided to lean into his natural talent and become a producer.
• In late April 2020, Ricky went viral on TikTok with “The Sharkboy Beat,” which samples a line from the 2005 film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. The track has soundtracked more than 2 million TikTok videos.
• Ricky issued “The Chicken Wing Beat” in June 2020. It blew up thanks to TikTok influencers choreographing viral dance challenges.
• Also in 2020, Ricky’s “The Banjo Beat, Pt. 1” garnered more than 11 million streams across platforms and spawned “damn!”, a viral metal-pop remix from singer-songwriter Jeris Johnson.
• In December 2020, Ricky announced that he’d inked a deal with Elektra Records.
