Alt-rockers Relient K formed during the late-’90s golden age of Christian pop punk, then went on to embrace a more mainstream sound, earning a trio of Gold records along the way.
∙ After the group’s core members met in a church youth group during high school, they recorded a demo in 1998 that caught the ear of Christian music star TobyMac, who signed them to his label.
∙ Their 2003 album, Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right…But Three Do, earned the band a Grammy nomination and became their first top 40 entry on the Billboard 200 chart.
∙ The Dove Award-winning Mmhmm was their first of five albums to hit No. 1, and two of its tracks (“Be My Escape” and “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been”) were mainstream rock hits in 2004.
∙ The 2007 chart-topper Five Score and Seven Years Ago featured two of Christian radio’s biggest songs that year: “Forgiven” and “Give Until There’s Nothing Left.”
∙ Frontman Matt Thiessen collaborated with Owl City on the 2009 indie electronica smash “Fireflies,” which went to No. 1 in 10 countries after it was featured as an iTunes Single of the Week.
