Mexican singer, musician, and producer Raymix (born Edmundo Gómez Moreno) is part of a new wave of cumbia artists who blend traditional rhythms with modern electronic sounds.
∙ His first group, the electronic trio Light & Wave, earned buzz in 2013 when tastemaker Armin van Buuren played their track “Feeling the City” on his radio show, A State of Trance.
∙ The idea for his 2018 breakout single—the multi-Platinum chart-topper “Oye Mujer,” which featured Colombian crooner Juanes—came while the former aerospace student was interning with NASA.
∙ Collaborating with Esteman and Georgel on their 2019 update of Juan Gabriel’s “El Noa Noa,” which has been embraced as an LGBTQ anthem, inspired him to come out as gay a year later.
∙ His electrocumbia take on La Arrolladora Banda el Limón de René Camacho’s “Tú Eres La Razón” earned him a nomination for Regional Mexican Artist of the Year at 2020’s Premio Lo Nuestro.
∙ Mexican pop star Paulina Rubio duetted on the 2020 single “Tú Y Yo,” which went to No. 1 in eight countries.
