With her velvety vocals and colorful storytelling, independent singer/songwriter Rayana Jay imbues her contemporary R&B songs with the spirit of an old soul, bridging the gap between contemporaries such as SZA and Solange and major influences like Anita Baker and Amy Winehouse. Debuting in the late 2010s, she issued a trio of EPs before the end of the decade, and in 2022 issued her fourth extended-play effort, Last Call, a refined showcase for her seductive ballads and strutting midtempo jams.
