Pip Millett’s take on R&B and neo-soul is honest, vulnerable, and powerful. Born in Manchester in 1998, she was influenced from an early age by singers such as Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, and Joni Mitchell. Today, Millet’s vocals are effortless and free of effects, and she sings over minimal production so that her emotions can shine through. A great example is her 2018 single, “Make Me Cry,” in which she personifies depression as a lover that she needs to walk away from. Three years later, Millett released her debut EP, Motion Sick, a five-song showcase of her personal songwriting and polished vocal abilities over vintage soul and R&B productions.
