Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My parents have VHS footage of me grabbing onto my dads speakers at home and freaking out to Madonna and The Talking Heads when I was about 3 years old…. The rest is history
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Fela Kuti, Expensive Shit Metro Area, Metro Area (15th Anniversary Edition) The Who, Live at Leeds (Deluxe Edition) 2001 Remaster Metro Area encompasses everything about NYC nightlife to me. Live at Leeds has got to be one of the best live albums of all time. Fela’s music launched my live career. I’ve shared the stage with his drummer Tony Allen and his sons, Femi and Seun.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Roma Norte” ‘Roma Norte’ started it all! Sketched it out in Ableton one day during my first visit to Mexico City in the mid 2010's. Got back to New York and put it on all analog gear, Roland 808’s and stuff. I still DJ this one all the time!
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Headlining Laurent Garnier’s Festival Yeah! in 2019. Laurent is a legend of French electronic music scene, rubbing elbows with Daft Punk and the like. Drove straight from Venice to Lourmarin same day to play. A ‘damn I might have made it’ moment.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I hope musicians can sustainably create their art, as the industry is in a unique place right now. My bucket list is full of well wishes for the artistic community. Also, I’ve listened to so much Little Dragon—writing a song with Yukimi is a dream!
