Artist Biography
Award-winning Regional Mexican hitmakers Pesado are part of a generation of norteño bands who reshaped the classic genre for modern listeners.
∙ Formed in 1993 by accordionist Beto Zapata and bassist Pepe Elizondo, they had their first big regional hit with 1995’s “Eso Me Gusta.”
∙ Beginning with 2001’s Todo Tuyo, 18 of Pesado’s LPs have reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart—and four went to No. 1.
∙ Their hit 2007 LP, Gracias Por Tu Amor, generated controversy along with sales for taking on traditional ideas of male dominance and physical abuse in relationships.
∙ Pesado won Best Norteño Album Latin Grammy Awards for 2009’s Sólo Contigo and Desde la Cantina, Vol. 1, 2015’s Abrázame, and 2018’s Los Ángeles Existen.
∙ Their video for the 2013 single “Mi Primer Amor”—a song dedicated to mothers—has been a top-streaming pick on Mother’s Day playlists.
∙ In 2015, the band had four singles from their album Abrázame appear on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart simultaneously.
