One of the musical theater’s finest performers of the late 20th/early 21st century, Patti LuPone made her Broadway debut in the musical THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM (1975). After a few flops flops, LuPone won a Tony Award in 1979 for her lead performance in EVITA. In 1985, LuPone moved to London and became the first American actress to gain a principal role with the Royal Shakespeare Company, in the hit musical LES MISÉRABLES. In the late 1980s/early ‘90s, LuPone appeared in the popular U.S. television drama LIFE GOES ON, before playing Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1993 London production of SUNSET BOULEVARD, despite competition from bigger names such as Meryl Streep, Liza Minnelli, and Julie Andrews. In the mid ‘00s she took over the classic part of Rose in the beloved GYPSY.
