About Papaito
Artist Biography
Afro-Cuban percussionist and singer Papaíto (AKA Mario Munez) worked with cha cha chá originator Enrique Jorrín, in Orquesta América. He moved to Mexico, performed in various movies, and joined the legendary Cuban musical institution Sonora Matancera, remaining a member into the '00s. His session work outside Matancera included appearances on two highly-regarded albums by Carlos "Patato" Valdez: the '60s classic PATATO & TOTICO, and 1976’s READY FOR FREDDY. On the latter, Papaíto sang lead vocals of his self-penned "La Ambulancia." Papaíto signed with SAR Records in 1979, and released five highly successful solo albums, including the excellent PAPAITO RINDE HOMENAJE A ABELARDO BARROSO.
