Composer and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Nyron Higor is part of a 21st century generation of Brazilian musical artists with a futurist, yet rooted-in-tradition take on MPB, filtered through regional samba, jazz, and folk norms and combined with contemporary production techniques. In his instrumental recordings, Higor stitches soul, neo-psychedelia, funk, hip-hop, and ambient EDM. In 2022, he self-released the Fio de Lâmina mini-album, composed of eight brief instrumentals. The tunes reflected his love of hip-hop beats, lushly layered ambience, nylon-string guitars, and warm basses alongside minimal keyboards and a wide range of percussion. It won support from important U.K. DJs, among them Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, and John Gomez. After signing with Far Out in 2023, he entered studios with a cluster of close associates in production, vocals, and instrumental acumen. The end result, Nylon Higor, was released in 2025.
