Norman Hutchins was a Los Angeles-based minister and contemporary gospel artist whose recordings were nominated for Dove and Grammy awards. Roughly a decade after he earned a doctorate in church administration, Hutchins debuted with a self-titled album, one of 1992's brighter contemporary gospel releases, on the Sparrow label. After a follow-up for Sparrow, Hutchins moved to the JDI label for a handful of warmly received albums released during the late '90s and early 2000s, including Battlefield, his first Top Ten gospel disc. Hutchins also thrived on the IR label, where he released Spontaneous Praise, Vol. 1, If You Didn't Know...Now You Know, and Hosanna. Whether recording in a studio or in a church, Hutchins' output maintained a down-to-earth, uplifting sound.
