Originally from Jalandhar and now based in the US, Punjabi pop star Nijjar brings together the best of his birth and adopted homelands in his oeuvre. Having burst onto the scene with the Karan Aujla-assisted “Tension” in 2018, Niijar makes tunes with either the rhythmic and rustic appeal of bhangra or the bounce and braggadocio of hip-hop—and occasionally combines the two in a compelling sound. Thanks to a consistent run of hits such as 2022’s “Velly” and “Chobbar”, and 2024 album His Story, the singer-rapper has established himself a name to watch out for.
